In 2014-15, Pierre Manchot cycles from France to Mongolia. Accompanied by Lucie Dulau, they spend one year on their bikes. Of the 18,000 kilometers they travel, not even one was spared by human’s hand. The most common waste is product’s packaging consumed directly in the car and thrown away on the roadsides. Essentially: water bottles, cans of beers and sodas, glass bottles. These are all recyclable. Here is the starting point of the Amazing Waste Project.

Waste pickers comes from economic disadvantaged section of the population. This project gives them the opportunity to improve their incomes by collecting quicker recycling waste directly from families.
To encourage families to sort their waste, they will be rewarded by a discount voucher, delivered from shops for each bag of recycling waste collected. The collector gives a voucher to the family in exchange of waste. Through this system, shops involved in the project increase their number of customers.
The waste pickers will continue to sell their waste to a middleman, who sells to a recycling company. In this way, we use the skills of the collectors without changing the system but we improve it through the involvement of the families.
